HealthForce Partners to Lead $250K Healthcare Workforce Development Initiative in San Joaquin County

Stockton, Calif.; Dec. 18 – HealthForce Partners, a leading healthcare sector partnership in California, is proud to announce an initiative aimed at addressing critical healthcare workforce shortages in San Joaquin County. The county Board of Supervisors has approved the reallocation of $250,499 in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding to support this vital effort.

The two-year initiative will focus on scholarships, upskilling programs, and work-based learning opportunities, equipping local residents with the skills and resources to pursue and advance in healthcare careers.

“This funding allows us to tackle some of the most pressing challenges our healthcare system is facing, particularly those exacerbated by the pandemic,” said Paul Lanning, Executive Director of HealthForce Partners. “We’re energized to help local residents build meaningful careers while strengthening the healthcare infrastructure in our community.”

Key Program Components

  • Student Scholarships – Providing up to $2,500 over a two-year period to 70 students pursuing careers in high-demand healthcare fields.

  • Incumbent Worker Upskilling – Offering continuing education on stroke awareness and response, with stipends for participating practitioners.

  • Work-Based Learning Placements – Creating hands-on learning opportunities for students to gain real-world experience in healthcare settings.

“We are committed to ensuring our community has the healthcare professionals needed to fill critical roles,” said Supervisor Steve Ding. “This initiative bridges the gap between education and employment, helping residents at all levels build careers while meeting the needs of our local employers. It’s an investment in both our workforce and the well-being of San Joaquin County.”

The initiative also leverages HealthForce Partners’ collaborative partnerships with the San Joaquin County Employment & Economic Development Department (EEDD), United Way of San Joaquin County, and other key organizations to maximize its impact. HealthForce Partners’ program is uniquely designed to foster pandemic recovery and enhance the County’s capacity for critical care, including stroke care, which has become increasingly important in the wake of COVID-19.

Details on scholarships and program participation will be available in January 2025. Visit our website and follow us on LinkedIn, Instagram, and Facebook for updates on how to apply.
