Our first Medical Assistant Bootcamp has launched! A group of innovative healthcare and education leaders convened to develop a Medical Assistant Bootcamp to advance the career of Medical Assistant (MA) incumbent workers at Community Medical Centers (CMC).
The 22 incumbent workers from CMC are currently enrolled in an intensive and fast paced 6-week full commitment program at Lincoln Technical Academy/Lodi Adult School. Through the program, participants are preparing for the California Certifying Board for Medical Assistants (CCMBA) certification, reviewing key elements and scope of practice, and exploring new technical and medical skills.
CMC currently has 21 clinics located throughout San Joaquin County with over 250 employed MAs. CMC has established itself as a training ground for recently trained MAs. Most MAs employed at CMC reside in the cities that they serve, which is an exciting effort to both hire and promote locally.
“I believe it is important to support our employees in lifelong learning and expanding their potential both in their current career and in their future aspirations. I am excited that over 50% of our current MA workforce are willing to study and work hard to pass the California Medical Assistant Certification Examination as it expands their skills, knowledge, competence and confidence, which will ultimately result in better care for our patients,” explained Chief Nursing Officer of CMC, Dr. Ginger Manss.
Financially supported by both CMC (with a grant generously funded by Health Net) and Lincoln Technical Academy/Lodi Adult School, the program is at no cost to its participants. Through the collaborative educational partnership of Lincoln Technical Academy/Lodi Adult School, the training and program have been tailored to fit the employment and skills requirements of CMC.
“With this partnership, we hope to have a positive impact on our community by providing opportunities for those who want to advance their careers. Partnering with local employers provides opportunities to customize our instruction to meet the needs of our business partners and community,” said Principal and Career Technical Education Director of Lincoln Technical Academy/Lodi Adult School, Julie Jansen.
The program begins January 27- March 5, 2020. The second cohort is scheduled to run March 31st – May 7, 2020.
